Sailing From the River Axe to the Isles of Scilly

Sept 2008 by John Laband

A long held ambition to visit the Isles of Scilly became possible in
September last year when the two fundamental variables of ‘time off work’
and ‘fair weather’ briefly coincided. After a summer battered by
successive Atlantic weather systems the Azores high seemed to be heading
north and this was confirmed by internet weather sites such as the Met
office European surface pressure forecast and the North Atlantic NOAA wave
height prediction chart which both look forward about 6 days.

We have been born into interesting times. If you had a moment's doubt about that, check out this 4 minute video, "Information Overload"

I'm posting a picture of sailing my OWL last summer as a counterbalance! The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Dreaming Mountain All Souls Day

Janis Comb gazing over the November meadows in Johnson at Samhain gathering. Sarab led kundalini yoga, and people offered intentions for the dead, in a ceremony of release and renewal, which i took literally by getting ill about halfway through the tenth round of fire breathing. Ah, well. All good dragons have their day.

Dear Ambassador Powell,

"Inspiration" by CP-Estes

Mis estimados: Do not lose heart. We were made for these times. I have heard from so many recently who are deeply and properly bewildered. They are concerned about the state of affairs in our world right now... Ours is a time of almost daily astonishment and often righteous rage over the latest degradations of what matters most to civilized, visionary people.

What's the best way to dry out a digital camera?

Well. This is probably one of the best ways I can think of to ruin a camera...or photograph "orbs"!

Psyche...the butterfly

Just as I began to hack down the last of the bird-planted sunflowers out front, this monarch alighted. I had to drop the cable cutters and pick up the camera instead.

Spearminting!

NORA drawing abeam an unknown yacht in a brisk Westerly on Lake Champlain...pure joy.

The Shingle

This is a sign with a story, like everything else in this great round rolling world. The sign that welcomes you to my consulting room door has another side, visible only from the garden. It is a varnished carving created on the island of Okinawa in 1958. The figures are shaped like little penguins, or maybe bowling pins, each swathed in a neat kimono, with one painted into the margin at a later date.
